Summer Youth Camp 1 week Pottery on the wheel

This is a great class for young people to be introduced to the fun of pottery on the wheel. We will meet for 5 days, two hours a day. Students will learn to center clay and form a cylinder which is the basis for other shapes. We will learn to make handles for mugs, apply basic decorating techniques, and use glazes to add and color and durability to our work. Students will be introduced to other forms as they continue to grow on their centering and throwing skills. Classes are small and designed for individual attention so that each student can develop skills in a relaxed environment. Ages 12-15. Meets on July Mon.14, Tues. 15, Thurs. 17, Fri. 18 and Monday 21. 10:30 to 12:30. *Clay, 2 firings, use of glazes and slips and borrowing of pottery tools included. Students must bring: comfortable cloth that they don't mind getting clay on, an apron if you prefer, a small towel, short nails (long nails make molding clay on the wheel difficult), one 2 quart size bucket.
