*This class is for students already familiar with clay use. Come and learn how to use coils to create beautiful vessels inspired by African and Pre colonial pottery. Using traditional techniques to hand build your piece, you will burnish your work, learn to apply and prepare terra sigillata to get your work ready for smoke barrel firing. You will seal your work with natural products. Pieces are for decorative use. Clay and pottery tools not included. Some tools will be provided to use during classes. Feel free to bring your favorite tools Students will share a shelf to store work. *THIS COURSE DOES NOT INCLUDE USE OF OPEN STUDIO Each student can create up to two pieces: one measuring up to 15 in height x 12 in wide max. and another within 12 in x 6 in. max. Taller pieces will not be fired. This is a focus project and skill class where learning to construct coil forms and firing without the aid of an electric kiln to obtain interesting effects wor the use of glazes is the goal.
